Koduri Srisaila sri (S.S.) Rajamouli has won the prestigious award for his contribution to the field of arts. Apart from Baahubali, the director has also made many blockbusters like Magadheera and Eega. Post Baahubali everything has changed for SS Rajamouli. The Telugu director has become a known figure throughout the country, and his magnum opus is one of the talking points of the country. Now, the filmmaker has also got the recognition of the Indian Government. It is now officially announced that SS Rajamouli will be awarded with the fourth-highest civilian award, Padma Shri.
“I don’t know what to say. It is quite a mixed feeling. Very frankly I don’t feel I deserve the honour. This is not humility. But can’t deny that it also makes me so happy and proud to be with them,” S S Rajamouli posted on Twitter.
Rana Daggubati, who played antagonist in Baahubali, took to Twitter to congratulate his director.
Baahubali: The Beginning, was screened at the Open Cinema Strand of Busan International Film Festival, Indian Film Festival, the Hague and the Sitges Film Festival in Spain, Utopiales Film Festival in France. Golden Horse Film Festival in Taipei, Taiwan, Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia L’Etrange International Film Festival in Paris, Five Flavours Film Festival in Poland and Hawaii International Film Festival in Honolulu.
His other notable works include the sports drama film Sye, the social problem film Vikramarkudu, which was screened at the International Film Festival of India in the mainstream section. The melodrama films Maryada Ramanna, Vikramarkudu and Chhatrapati were remade in various Indian languages, with successful reviews. He has garnered the Star World India, “Entertainer of The Year”, and the National Film Award in 2012.
On Sunday, Rajamouli was awarded Best Director Award for Baahubali at IIFA Utsavam 2016. The epic-war drama also won 5 other awards under various categories- Best Supporting Actor Male, Best Supporting Actor Female and Best Male Singer.
He is currently busy shooting for his the sequel of Baahubali. The film is expected to hit the screens by the end of 2016.
