Painting sold for $ 4 m

artAn Indian classical painting by a Goa artiste Francis Newton Souza was sold for $ 4 million ( Rs 28 crore ) at Christies Auction hall in New York breaking the earlier record of another Indian V S Gyntade’s painting which fetched Rs 25 crore. Souza, born n 1924, was active during the Quit Indian movement and started Bombay Progressive Artists Association in 1947. His paintings hit the headlines after their display in London in 1948. He died in 2002 but he still continues to live among art lovers across the globe.
