People in preventive custody can vote through post, Election Commission

ecThe Election Commission of India has directed through a reminder to the concerned authorities of Haryana and Maharashtra to allow the people to vote who are in preventive detention. It also asked the concerned authorities to issue the instructions properly to the officials.

Both the states are scheduled to poll on October 15 while the counting would be held on October 19.

The Election Commission has written letters to the Chief Secretaries of the two states to remind the provision under Section 62 (5) of the representation of the People act. The provision allows the people under preventive detention to cast their vote through post.
