PM pays tributes to Rajiv

rajiv-gandhi1Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tributes to former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary. “I pay my tributes to India’s former Prime Minister, Shri Rajiv Gandhi, on his birth anniversary,” the Prime Minister said. Born in Mumbai on August 20, 1944 and trained under his mother and former pm Indira Gandhi, Rajiv pioneered anti-defection Act, 73 and 74 amendments to the Constitution for local bodies’ self-governance and reducing voting right age from 21 to 18. He was away from politics as a pilot but had to return and fill the void created by his late mother. Winning record 411 seats in 1984 elections he was installed as a popular PM and set the trend for a new foreign policy. He sent IPKF to Sri Lanka to put an end to civil war but later he fell to a human bomb while addressing people in Sriprumbudur in Tamilnadu.
