Poll dates for four assemblies likely to be announced next week

Election-CommissionAs the terms of legislative assemblies of Haryana and Maharashtra are coming to an end on October 27 and November 8respectively, the Election Commission is likely to announce poll dates next week.

Jharkhand and Jammu & Kashmir legislative assembly terms end on January 3 and 19 next year.

The sources in the election commission said that Diwali, Dassera, Ganesh Chaturthi and the deployment of central forces are the main factors in setting the poll dates in Maharashtra and Haryana. Jammu & Kashmir poll dates will depend upon season while Jharkhand’s poll dates will depend upon security deployment in the naxal-affected areas, and also on the rains.

Haryana and Maharashtra are ruled by Congress with the support of its allies while in Jharkhand, it supports JMM.
