As per official records, in Kattedan, there are more than 200 industrial units which are in the business of washing and recycling used plastic carry bags of the prohibited thickness. It seems that the Pollution Control Board has turned a blind eye to this.
According to the 2013 PCB records there are 232 units in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy district. S. Jeevananda Reddy the environmental expert said, “Several such industries have still not been shifted by the department from the catchment areas of Osman sagar and Himayat sagar.”
Sanjay Kumar the PCB director said, “Many units in Rajendranagar and Ranga Reddy were sealed. The team conducts regular checks. Small industries are a problem as they shift very often.”
The PCB is also blind to other sectors that produce other chemical, batteries, and oils apart from plastic units which are polluting the ground water and their toxic waste is also led into the sewerage lines.
