The Congress has declared the names of Ponnala Laxmaiah and Uttam Kumar Reddy as the President and Working President of Telangana state Pradesh Congress Committee. In a surprising move, Raghu Veera Reddy has been chosen to head the Seemandhra Pradesh Congress Committee.
Congress incharge Digvijay Singh had a discussion meeting with Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi this morning to confirm the appointments. Ponnala’s appointment has come as a surprise as Jana Reddy and D Srinivas were tipped to be under serious consideration. The BC card, especially the strategy to hold the Kapu community with Congress seems to have worked in favor of Ponnala. D Srinivas too belongs to the same community but the decision to cater to Reddy community too with a Working president’s post seems to have influenced the choice of Ponnala. Uttam Kumar Reddy’s good relations with Delhi political circles have paid well in his appointment. Both the candidates are some what young choices with comparison to Jana or D Srinivas.
Ponnala represents Janagama in Warangal, Uttam Kumar is from Huzur Nagar, Nalgonda. This is the first time a working president’s post is created in Congress party here. Ponnala and Uttam Kumar are presently at 10 Janpath to thank Sonia Gandhi for their appointment.
