‘Poverty cut, our goal’

unnamedPrime Minister Narendra Modi considers this a very important summit and thanks U N Secretary General Ban ki Moon for organizing it. Elimination of poverty is the target and addressing the needs of 1.3 billion poor in the world is not merely a question of survival,
dignity or moral responsibility, he said. India pursued poverty alleviation and chose the path of removing it by empowering the poor. Priority on education, skill development and schemes of development launched a new era of empowerment including new bank accounts for 180 million, direct transfer of benefits, funds to the unbanked, insurance and pension for everyone’s sunset years.  Besides, housing, power, water and sanitation for all are goals with a definite date, not just a mirage of hope. Development is linked to empower women and it begins with a massive programme on educating the girl child, said the pm.
