Power tariff hike imminent in Telangana?

telangana-powerPower distribution companies in Telangana have proposed hike in power supply charges. In the ARR (Annual Revenue Requirement) reports – submitted to the Chairman of the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) – Mr Ismail today, they proposed a hike of seven paisa per unit for consumption above 100 units. The tariff for less than 100 units will be the same as of last year, sources said. Telangana discoms- southern and northern- have accumulated a loss of over Rs 1958 crores in 2015-16, according to sources. After perusal of proposals, the ERC will take a final call on the tariff hike. Last year, the tariff for middle level consumers i.e. above 100 units a month- were hiked by 4.6per cent.. ‘we want to see that 68 per cent of people will not have the burden of hike’ according to officials of TSPDCL.
