The long demand to assign national status to Pranahita-Chevella irrigation project seems got it time for approval as the Union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharathi said on Monday that the officials from the State and the Centre would discuss the issue soon. The announcement came after K Chandrasekhara Rao, Chief Minister of Telangana called upon Uma Bharathi to pave the way towards according national status to the project.
Uma Bharathi, on the sidelines of the meeting, told to reporters, “Officials from the state government and the Ministry of Water Resources will sit together to discuss about the issue in another seven or eight days”.
Uma Bharathi also confirmed that KCR discussed about a few other water resource projects too during the meet.
The sources claim that the project would benefit 15 Lakh hectares of farmlands as the water would transfer from Pranahita river to Chevella.
