President Rule In Arunachal Pradesh

pranabThe President Pranab Mukherji gave his assent for president rule in Arunachal Pradesh. This north eastern state under Congress rule faced constitutional crisis as 21 MLAs revolted  against the chief minister Nabam Tuki. The BJP with a strength of 11 MLAs wanted to form government with the rebel Congress MLAs, but failed in its attempt. No confidence motion was introduced in the 60 member assembly on December 16 and 17, in which Tuki failed to prove his strength, as only 26 party MLAs supported him out of 47 in the House. These developments necessitated the president rule in the state. The former chief minister Tuki, Congress senior leader Mallikarjuna Kharge and the Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar accused the Central government’s measure as murder of democracy. Meanwhile the Congress Party petitioned in the Supreme Court against Prez rule in Arunachal Pradesh.
