Prohibition in Bihar from April

nitishBihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced on Thursday that he has instructed his officials to take steps towards ban on alcohol. The ban will be imposed from April 1, 2016. “In 1977-78, we tried to impose prohibition but it was not effective. But I feel that women are suffering (because of alcohol abuse),” Kumar said. He further said, “I have instructed my officials to start working towards this and implement this from the next financial year.” This is the first major announcement by Nitish Kumar since he was sworn in as chief minister for the fifth time after a spectacular election victory. Gujarat was the first Indian state to implement total liquor prohibition in 1958. Till now, sale and consumption of alcohol is banned in Gujarat, Manipur, Nagaland and Lakshadweep.
