The ruling Samajwadi Party has asked the Election Commission to ban the controversial religious leader and MP from Gorakhpur Yogi Adityanath from campaigning and public speaking for by-polls to 11 Assembly and 1 Parliament seat in Uttar Pradesh.
Yogi has been made a star campaigner for by-polls by BJP. He has been under severe criticism by the opposition parties after his alleged remarks of ‘love jihad’.
Spokesperson of Samajwadi Party Rajendra Chaudhary said on Monday, “The party has already written a letter to the commission to take action against Adityanath trying to incite communal passion by raising the issue of love jihad again and now it demands that he should be banned from campaigning”.
He alleged the politician-godman for making sensational remarks against a particular community to lure the voters of the majority.
“We have demanded the EC to take action against Adityanath let’s see what it does. We will wait, but if the EC does not take any action then we will talk to the top leadership after Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav returns from the Netherlands’ visit and decide further strategy this week”, continued Chaudhary.
