Raghavan joins NAS

vijayraghavan-365x260-274x186Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, K Vijay Raghavan, was inducted as a foreign associate of the US National Academy of Sciences (NAS) at a ceremony at Washington on Saturday. He had been elected as a foreign associate of NAS last year for his distinguished achievements in original research. NAS membership is a widely accepted mark of excellence in science and is considered one of the highest honours that a scientist could receive. The NAS membership is 2,250 and 440 foreign associates of whom 200 have received Nobel prizes. Raghavan was the director of the National Centre for Biological Sciences. He is a fellow of The Indian Science Academies, an Associate Member of the European Molecular Biology Organization and a Fellow of the Royal Society.
