Launching a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi told Lok Sabha that he (PM) goes by his word and does not pay heed to anyone, even his cabinet colleagues. “You cannot run the country with your opinions alone. Listen to all, your ministers, us and people of this country” Rahul said, reminding the charge of intolerance on him.
Strongly backing Kanhaiya Kumar, the students union president of JNU, Rahul said- “ I heard Kanhaiya’s speech completely and he said nothing against India. He did not insult our flag”
He questioned why Prime Minister was silent when people affiliated to BJP went on rampage and manhandled students, professors and media personnel.
“When Indian soldiers were battling with terrorists in Mumbai, Modi chose to visit the site and spoilt the operation by diverting the nation’s attention. He played politics there. He visited Islamabad when India is at loggerheads with Pak and discussed over a cup of tea. What sort of patriotism is this?” he asked.
At one point, Rahul said Gandhi is on our side and Savarkar on yours. This remark creates furore.
Gandhi also raked up the issue of suicide of Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula and said the prime minister neither called up his mother nor did he speak on the issue.
