After more than two months of assessing the Congress’ debacle in the national elections this year, the AK Antony Committee has concluded that Rahul Gandhi is not responsible for the crushing defeat.
The committee said in the report, “Rahul Gandhi is not to be blamed for Congress’s defeat in Lok Sabha polls. Such news have been spread by mischievous people to weaken party”.
The report listed various reasons for the defeat of the party in the 2014 general elections. The report has also placed expectations on Sonia and Rahul to revive the party under their leadership.
All the four members of the panel Antony, Mukul Wasnik, RC Khuntia and Avinash Pandey met the Congress president and submitted her the voluminous report yesterday. Sources indicated that instead of being critical of the leadership, the report talks about the manipulation of media coverage by the BJP and the controversial role played by the media.
Mr. Antony refused to speak about the details provided in the report. The Congress had got its lowest tally of 44 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha in the General Elections held in April-May this year.
