As has been expected, the Finnish telecom major, Nokia has released an official statement announcing Indian born Rajiv Suri, who had been with the company for almost twenty years as the new CEO. Suri had been heading the Nokia Solutions and Networks for the last two years. Suri is credited with the turnaround of the loss making Nokia division into the chief contributor to Nokia’s entire last years turnover.
“Rajeev is the right person to lead the company forward,” Nokia Chairman Risto Siilasmaa said in a statement. “He has a proven ability to create strategic clarity, drive innovation and growth, ensure disciplined execution, and deliver results.”
As Nokia had recently sold its mobile business to Microsoft for 7.5 billion dollars, it will now focus on the three remaining businesses – network, navigation and patents. The Manipal Institute of Technology alumni will have the task of beating the Swedish Ericsson and Chinese Huawei already well established in these areas to take Nokia forward.
Nokia has also announced that it would use 1 billion euros it had earned from the sale of the mobile division to pay back the shareholders.
