Rape Accused DIG Suspended by Maharashtra Government

The government of Maharashtra has suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Sunil Paraskar who allegedly harassed a Mumbai based model.

A 25-year-old model has accused the 57-year-old top cop of raping and molesting her.

Chief Minister Prithviraj Chauhan approved the proposal to suspend Paraskar by the Home Department, an official said.

“The proposal to suspend Paraskar was sent to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. The file regarding Paraskar’s suspension was received this afternoon in the CM office and Mr Chavan has given approval to the action,” he said.

Paraskar was recently granted a pre-arrest bail by a Mumbai court viewing the complainant’s behaviour and her email exchange with him suggested consent.

An FIR was registered against the top cop by sub-urban Malwani Police under sections 376(2)(rape by a police officer), 376 C (intercourse by superintendent of jail, remand home, etc) and 354(D) (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code.
