Rare honour for Saina Nehwal

rare-honour-for-saina-nehwalIn a rare honour for an Indian sportsperson, Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal has been appointed a member of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Athletes’ Commission.

. “Following your candidature for the elections of the IOC Athletes’ Commission during the Olympic Games Rio 2016, it is with great pleasure to appoint you in consultation with the Chair, as Member of the Athletes’ Commission,” according to a letter from the IOC President Thomas Bach to Saina.

Saina is the second Indian to be appointed as member of the IOC.

In August, businesswoman Nita Ambani was among eight new members elected to the International Olympic Committee on the eve of the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
