TS Government issued orders to the district collectors for setting up a ration shop for every 3 km in villages and towns. In Girigan areas the ration shops will be located for every 1km. Further, collectors were told to ensure that dealers do not incur any losses due to allotment of cards and location of ration shops. It has decided to further increase transparency in the distribution of ration supplies. Location of fair price shops far away from the beneficiaries has created problems for government and the beneficiaries. Besides, problems were also more because the ration cards under a dealer were more than the prescribed number. With this people were facing hardships. Government issued orders to rationalise the number of ration cards in the ration shops. Plans are afoot to see that ration cards are equally distributed to all the areas controlled by the dealer.
Under the GHMC limits, each ration shop cards will be from 1000 to 1200, according to government decision. In corporations 800 to 1000 cards and in municipalities, city panchayats 600 cards and in villages 500 cards will be allocated to each dealer. Dealers are expected to increase the store capacity of rice. Ration cards regulation has created a controversy as the identity of security cards eligibility has not yet come to an end. Experts opined that it would be better to rationalise the ration cards after identity of eligibility criteria.
