Reprieve for Assange

Julian AssangeIn a big relief for Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, a UN panel has reportedly ruled that he was arbitrarily detained. This would pave way for him to leave the Ecuadorian embassy on Friday. Mr Assange has sought political asylum in London’s Ecuadorian embassy in 2012 to avoid extradition to Sweden over sexual assault claims. He vehemently denied the charges. Assange has approached UN panel on illegal detention and lodged a complaint saying he could not leave without being arrested.
A few days back he has announced that he would accept arrest by UK police if the UN
group ruled against him.
