In a spirited attack, Union HRD minister Smriti Irani has squarely blamed Congress vice president of playing politics over the dead body of a hapless research scholar in HCU and also targeted Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao of not responding to her calls on the day of suicide. “Rohit’s dead body was not allowed to take to a hospital from the university premises. The reason is, political game is to be started over it. Mr Rahul Gandhi had no time to visit a single family of over 600 students who ended their lives for the cause of Telangana statehood. He never visited any other house whose sons or daughters have committed suicide. But he went to HCU, consoled Rohit’s family and even staged dharna with them” she castigated.
“I made a call to KCR but I was told that he is busy. I even called up his daughter and MP Kavitha” Smriti said.
On this, TRS MP Jitendar Reddy countered saying that KCR has ordered a probe and asked details from Shivdhar Reddy, Intelligence Chief of Telangana and police have registered a case too.
Smriti said she was moved over the death of Rohit Vemula. Narrating in good detail the events that have taken place post his death, she said the Vice Chancellor was not appointed by the BJP government but during the UPA regime. “Congress MP V Hanumantha Rao has written a letter to me urging me to do justice on a number of issues, including Rohit Vemula issue. Asaduddin Owaisi too wrote a letter in 2015. So did our local MP and my colleague Bandaru Dattatreya” she stated. She ruled out apologizing on both the issues.
