Rs 1 cr to Edhi Foundation

unnamed (3)Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced Rs 1 crore to Edhi
Foundation as a token of appreciation and for the philanthropic work that Bilqis Bano Edhi has been doing. Edhi was born in Bantwa, in Junagadh, Gujarat, and Modi invited her to visit Junagadh along with her family. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj also complimented Bilqis for the love and affection they have showered on Geeta. The man behind the foundation is Abdul Sattar Edhi, who was born in Bamtwal in
Gujarat in 1928. He migrated to Pakistan after partition and began life setting up a small shop. Today his foundation supports millions as he learnt the art of service and the philanthropic style from his mother even as a teenager. What began as a free medical centre in a small room turned out to be a Edhi Foundation in 1951 which later rescued the Indian deaf and dumb girl Geetha. He married the hospital nurse Bilqis and started philanthropic service across the globe while setting up over 300 NGO units in Pakistan.
