Rs 25 cr for MPs likely

par1The Central Government has decided to enhance the MP Lads fund to Rs 25 crore. Statistics Minister V K Singh has announced it in the Parliament. He said that discussions were still going on on the subject. But chances seem to be bright for increasing the funds for MPs. The rationale behind increasing the fund was to entail the MPs to take up developmental works in their respective constituencies on the recommendations of the district collectors. The Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker and MP lads committee chairman wrote a letter to the government to increase the said funds. Former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao began the MP lad funds in 1993 allocating Rs 5 lakhs. It was raised to Rs 1 crore during 1994-95, Rs 2 crore in 98-99 and then raised to Rs 5 crore in 2011-2012.
However, there was criticism that some MPs were not utilizing the said funds for any works in their constituencies.
