Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has given a cash award of Rs 25 lakh to Saina Nehwal, badminton player, for her runner-up position in All England Open Badminton Championship 2015 held in Birmingham (United Kingdom) from 8-13 March 2015. The award has been given to Saina from the ministry’s scheme of special awards to medal winners in international sports events and their coaches.
Rs 69.49 cr for helpline
A scheme for universalisation of women helpline was approved on February 19, at a cost Rs 69.49 crore for implementation. The scheme provides 24 hour emergency and non-emergency response to all women affected by violence in public and private sphere, including in the family, community, workplace etc. This information was given by Union Minister of Women and Child Development Maneka Sanjay Gandhi in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
Rs 18.58 cr scheme for women
A scheme for One Stop Centre for Women has been approved on March 4, with total project cost of Rs 18.58 crore for implementation. The Scheme envisages establishment of One Stop Centre in each State/UT in the first phase. States have been requested to send proposals for release of funds. It has also been envisaged to integrate these Centres with Women Helpline (181) and other existing help lines. This information was given by the Union Minister of Women and Child Development Maneka Sanjay Gandhi in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.
