The Minister of State of Environment and Forest Prakash Javadekar said that his ministry had already piloted a bill in the Parliament to release nearly Rs 35, 000 crore to States for greening degraded forest areas, adopt best wildlife management practices and change the quality of the existing forests. This will help achieve the Green India Mission in a record time and it will also boost employment in the rural and tribal areas, he said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will start a tree plantation campaign by planting a sapling at his official residence, 7 RCR on June 5, to mark the World Environment Day. Addressing the media here today Minister of State of Environment, Forest Prakash Javadekar said that Virat Kohli and international wrestler Sushil Kumar will participate in a function to plant saplings at Paryavaran Bhawan.
Sachin Tendulkar, Ajinkya Rane and Rohit Sharma, along with Javadekar and Maharashtra Minister for Medical education and Culture Vinod Tawde will plant saplings in Mumbai at Joggers Park. Yusuf Pathan and Irfan Pathan will plant saplings in Vadodara. Indian cricket team along with BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur will participate in a plantation drive in Kolkata on June 6.
