Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch in New Delhi Smart Cities Mission, Atal Mission for rejuvenation and Urban Transformation and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for urban areas tomorrow. Speaking to media, Minister of Urban Development and HUDA M Venkaiah Naidu said Rs 4 lakh crore will be spent on three missions in six years. Prime Minister will herald a new urban era with the launch tomorrow, he said. Naidu said that missions have been formulated after extensive consultations with States, Union Territories and Urban Local Bodies as to involve them to avoid pitfalls of implementation of Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewable Mission (JNNURM).
Ministers of Urban Development and Housing of States and UTs, Mayors and Municipal Chairpersons of 500 cities with population of above one lakh, Principal Secretaries from States/UTs, Municipal Commissioners will also attend the launch. The launch of missions will be followed by extensive consultations with States/UTs, elected and administrative heads of municipal bodies on implementation and Swachh Bharat Mission as well. Smart Cities Mission aims at developing urban eco-system covering physical, social, economic and institutional infrastructure. The objective is to offer better living and driving economic growth for all sections.
