Samanvith Working on Unheard Screams

schoolA 16-year old boy has travelled across Toopran village to educate nearly 2,500 school children on ways to identify sexual abuse and create awareness to curb them. He is working on project titled ‘Unheard Screams’ in the rural villages of Toopran. He says with help of two other friends, he covered the complete village by conducting campaigns in eight Anganwadi schools, four private schools and four other government schools. He has also sung a rap song “The Unimagined’. He feels awareness is always created in urban areas but the rural areas were largely ignorant of this issue. It is estimated that about 70% of sexual abuse incidents go unreported and the rate could be higher in villages since it is considered to be a taboo. Though there are child centers with helpline numbers like
1098 most of them are unaware of these helpline numbers. Due to his age he could not establish his own NGO but is confident that in 2 years he would start an NGO for noble cause of spreading awareness on sexual abuse.
