Sanjay Dutt is sent back to Pune’s Yerwada Central Jail. He was back to the jail when his plea for extension of leave is turned down. According to the officials in the prison, Sanjay has requested for extension of leave on December 24. He cited the reasons such as poor health.
The plea application was forwarded to the concerned police station in Mumbai for verification of the reasons but the request was turned down as the police didn’t give a ‘positive’ report.
Rajendra Dhamanae, Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) said to PTI, “Local police has not given a positive report on granting extension. They felt that extension was not needed for his treatment which is why I rejected his plea.”
Earlier, Sanjay Dutt’s lawyer Rizwan Merchant said to PTI that as the actor’s plea is rejected so the actor will move back to the jail in Oune.
Sanjay accused that his plea is rejected because of the ‘hype’ created by the media.
He said to reporters before leaving for Pune, “You (media) created a hype…..That I am a celebrity (so being favored). I am no celebrity. I have abided by the law of the land for 22 years, have abided by the jail authorities, jail manual…I am now going to surrender. No favor was done. Anyone can get furlough for a month in a year. I came out lawfully. I respect you, you should also respect me. Whatever the jail authorities have been doing is under the law.”
Reports say that Sanjay, accused in the 1993 Mumbai blast case is given a favor in terms of the leave which was not given to other co-convicts.
