SC to hear chopper scam case next week

AgustaWestland-chopperThe Supreme Court will hear a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) next week seeking police action against Congress president Sonia Gandhi, former prime minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia’s political advisor Ahmed Patel for allegedly receiving bribes in the AgustaWestland chopper scam.
Although Congress puts up a brave face inside the Parliament, a protracted legal case or a CBI probe will certainly provide fodder for the BJP to target the opposition of kickbacks, according to analysts.
The Rajya Sabha witnessed uproarious scenes for the second day on the issue leading to adjournment.
“I will give to the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha a copy of the contract between AgustaWestland and middleman James Christian Michele’s company,” Swamy told reporters before Parliament met for the day.
The government has said it will seek a report from the CBI on the deal and initiate the move to blacklist AgustaWestland and its parent company Finmeccanica and claimed the previous UPA dispensation had not put any embargo on the scandal-tainted company.
