Scholarships For Virgins Only

women-v6newsHigh grades and good attendance are the usual requirements for scholarship in educational institutions throughout the world. But one more and most essential pre requisite was imposed in the Quazula Natal province of Utkela district in Africa. The unexpected requirement for scholarships which drew much flak from human rights activists is – a pass in virginity test. The mayor of the city says this decision was warranted due to the alarming increase in the number of unwed mothers in educational institutions. He further says that if a girl student remains a virgin through out her academic career HIV, Aids and teenage pregnancy and the resultant problems could be avoided. Statistics say that there are 20,000 pregnant students in schools till now and their number is 223 in 2014. The mayor clarifies that scholarship is voluntary and a girl who wants it will have to undergo virginity test voluntarily. But the human rights activists argue that it is an onslaught on the personal freedom of the girls.
