Seemandhra does not merit special status: Planning Commission

The Planning Commission officials have indicated that the state of Andhra Pradesh, in its present shape after the bifurcation of the region, “does not meet National Development Council criteria (for special category state),” in a presentation to Planning Minister Inderjit Singh Rao. Bihar too, which has been asking for the status, does not merit the position, declared the officials. Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha are meanwhile adjudged fit to be given the Special Category Status where the states will get 90% of the Central assistance as grant and only 10% will be adjudged loan.
