Fabius, who was on an official visit to India, said that the French people really admire the 48-year-old stars’ talent and kindness, which helps bring together people from across the world to his films. Meanwhile Khan, who had also received the French honor ‘Knight in the Order of Arts and Letter’s in 2007, said that he is “humbled” by the accolade and is even more motivated to better work ensuring bigger appreciation for Indian cinema.
The honour, which was instituted by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802, is the highest reward given by the French Republic for exceptional service to France regardless of the nationality, and has been awarded to other celebrated Indian personalities as well including Amitabh Bachchan, late director Satyajit Ray and late sitar maestro Ravi Shankar.
