YS Sharmila, sister of YSR Congress Party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and the daughter of demised CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy is all set to begin her condolence yatra from December 8. Sharmila will meet the families of those who died of the ‘shock’ after YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s sudden death in a helicopter crash in 2009.
In the five-day yatra, YS Sharmila will meet 19 such families in Mahbubnagar district. This is considered to be the first phase of her yatra and she will later continue visiting other families in the next phases.
YSRCP was formed after the demise of former chief minister. YS Jagan held a yatra soon after his father’s demise but the Congress High Command was not happy with the move. The Congress asked Jagan to stop yatra but the former continued the tour. The rift later became the main reason of formation of YSRCP in 2011.
YSRCP is the main Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Assembly, with 67 seats. It occupied 9 seats in Lok Sabha. The party did not perform well in Telangana, managing to win only two assembly seats. Sharmila’s yatra in the newly formed state is to strengthen the party.
