Should Telangana alphabet be revised?

A professor from the Nizamabad based Telangana University, Dr. T Kanakaiah is proposing that the Telangana dialect telugu alphabet be revised, he says the 56 letter sanskritized version can be truncated to a simpler 25 letter version. Several letters that are not used in the conversational Telangana can be removed, he says pointing out “am, aha” from the vowel series.

A seminar, “Telangana Nava Nirmanam,” scheduled for next month, will discuss these issues and several other points with regard to the revival and reconstruction of Telangana socio-cultural, educational identity of Telangana. The school curriculum, historical inaccuracies and under representation, corrections measures would be a major focus of this and several more seminars to happen in the near future. There are proposals already to take up Karimnagar and Warangal region dialect as the basis for Telangana state official language. The long neglected histories of Telangana regional fighters and influential persons should find appropriate place at least now, say historians.
