Soldier goes missing in Ladakh after a hit by avalanche

soldierA soldier of the Indian Army has gone missing after a military foot patrol was hit by an avalanche in Turtuk area of Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir today.

“At about 8 am today, an army patrol in Turtuk area of Ladakh was hit by an avalanche in which two soldiers were buried under the snow. Immediate rescue drills resulted in one soldier being rescued while the second soldier is still missing,” A defence ministry spokesman said.

Turtuk in Nubra valley of Ladakh is at a height of 10,000 feet above sea level.
