The Congress president Ms. Sonia Gandhi and the party’s vice president Mr. Rahul Gandhi were granted bail by the Patiala House court on Saturday in the National Heralad case. The arguments lasted for only five minutes. They were granted bail on personal bond of Rs. 50,000 each. Party leader A.K. Antony gave surety for Sonia and Priyanka for Rahul. While Kapil Sibal argued for the bail and Subramaniam Swamy opposed it. The court did not agree with Subramaniam Swamy’s contention that Sonia and Rahul should surrender their passports to the court. The case was adjourned to February 20. This is the first time for Sonia and Rahul to attend a court of law. Sonia and Rahul, while speaking to the press were optimistic that justice would prevail and they would win the case. Subramaniam Swamy said that Sonia and Rahul were sure to go to jail in the case.
Meanwhile, the Senior leaders of the Congress Gulam Nabi Azad and Mallikarjuna Kharge also speaking to the press alleged that Prime minister Modi and other Congress ministers were leveling false allegations about National Herold. They said that the central government provided z category to Subramiam Swamy as he filed the case on Sonia and Rahul Gandhi at their behest. They alleged the Centre wanted to dethrone the Congress regime in Arunachal Pradsh but failed in its attempt. Hence it wanted to wreak vengence on the Congress leaders. They said that had full confidence in the judiciary.
