Chaotic situation prevailed for nearly 45 minutes as heated arguments broke out at the crucial meeting of Samajwadi party in Lucknow today after the crisis deepened following war of attrition between Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and his uncle Shivpal Yadav.
At one point of time, party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav called his son and Chief Minister as a liar (Aapka mukhyamantri jhooth bolta hai). Akhilesh countered his father saying ‘ a larger conspiracy has been brewed and You know who is behind that’ , hinting that senior leader Amar Singh hatched it.
But Mulayam said he is strongly behind Shivpal Yadav and Amar Singh and nothing against both of them will be tolerated. “Amar Singh saved me from going to jail. All his past sins are forgiven. Mere donning of red cap does not make one Samajwadi” Mulayam Singh made it clear.
“I am not a weak person, even to this day. Do not think that the youth is not with me. If you can’t face criticism, you can’t be a leader,” Mulayam had said in a veiled attack on the CM.
Sensing that he is losing ground, Akhilesh said he never said he will be floating a new party and expressed his readiness to quit if his father so desires. But Mulayam said Akhilesh will continue as Chief Minsiter and he does not want change of guard . He instead asked his son to hug Shivapal to mend fences and give a signal to the party cadre a sense of reassurance that the party is intact.
In the meeting Shivpal Yadav appeared rather aggressive and combative and he was fully supported by Mulayam. Akhilesh on the other hand, appeared rather apologetic.
Akhilesh on Sunday first sacked Shivpal, his uncle and party’s state unit chief, along with three other “pro-Amar Singh” ministers from his Cabinet. Mulayam, in a tit-for-tat action, expelled Ramgopal, pro-CM cousin and SP’s national general secretary, from the party for six years.
The crisis in the first family of Uttar Pradesh unfolded on Sunday when Akhilesh held a meeting of party legislators, a day ahead of a mega meeting of party MPs, MLAs, MLCs and ministers called by Mulayam.
After the meeting, the Chief Minister recommended to Governor Ram Naik that Shivpal, Narad Rai and Om Prakash Singh (all Cabinet ministers) and Sayeda Shadab Fatima (MoS -Independent charge) be sacked from his ministry. This was accepted immediately
