SS Negi, 97, Independent India’s first voter, casts vote

Shyam Saran Negi, 97 Independent India’s first voter, has cast his vote in Kinnaur, Kalpa district, Himachal Pradesh along with his wife this morning. He has the distinction of poling in all elections held in India so far. He spoke after casting his vote, questioned if a 97 year old like him can vote, why the youth of the country cannot vote? He has also said that vote is a sacred right and has to be utilized by one and all. He was specially felicitated by the officials at the polling booth. Media too queued up to listen to the opinions of India’s first voter.

Negi retired in 1975 as a school teacher and has never failed to vote, despite the difficult weather conditions in Himachal Pradesh. Recently, he had opined in a media interview that a chance to Modi to lead India this time may be given.x
