Stay on release of Rajiv’s assassins extended by SC till July 22nd

The stay imposed on the release of convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case has been extended by the Supreme Court till July 22nd. The same court had earlier in February stayed the release of the convicts after the Tamil Nadu government decided to release them after their death sentences were commuted to life by Supreme Court citing inordinate delay in carrying out the sentence. The issue was referred to the Constitutional Bench by the SC later. Nalini, one of the convicts, has recently gone to the SC to give the TN authority full authority to release them, without having to wait for Center’s approval.
