New research is saying that the longer summer days have an adverse effect on the chances of a man becoming a father, but not his habit of liquor or smoking. Research conducted the effect of lifestyle on sperm quality, which claims to be the World’s largest study on the subject, reveals these and many other astonishing facts.
The research was conducted by Sheffield and Manchester Universities on over 2000 men. The length of day, and not the heat is probably having an effect on the quality of sperm in the summer days, said the scientists. The other severe adverse effect is noticed in the users of Cannabis. Those who smoke pot will definitely have lesser chances of becoming fathers, unless they quit it altogether, or at least three moths before attempting fatherhood, declared the researchers. The cannabis users have a higher chance of fathering kids with abnormalities, the scientists revealed.
Quite contrary to popular beliefs, either booze or smoke or even obesity did not have any strong effect on the sperm quality, announced the scientists. The study published in the journal “Human Reproduction” also says that abstaining from sex for six days definitely improves the quality of sperm DNA. If only less than 4% sperm has normal shape, size and motility, the IVF methods are used.
