Surgical strike by grey hounds left Maoists in total disarray

v6The Bejjingi encounter in Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) left the left-wing guerellas in total disarray and, in a sense, it was the end of road for them in AOB, according to police reports.

Authentic information has reached the anti-naxal force through three sources- one through informer network, two by a cellphone message and three by means of surrendered naxalites- that a plenary meeting will be held near Balimela.

According to sources, forty well-trained commandos have reached Gumma area near Bejjingi on Sunday itself. With specific input that two top leaders- Akkiraju Haragopal alias Ramakrishna alias RK and Gajarla Ravi alias Uday will be attending the plenary.

As per a report published in an English daily, which quoted top police sources, the commandos were able to elude three-tier sentry formation of naxals in the darkness. They later formed in V shape around the camp and left only one route for the naxals to escape. This route was left since the grey hounds doubted that if they (forces) are also caught in a cross-fire, they should also have a route.

Well past mid-night, the forces have swooped on the maoist camp opening fire from all sides at a time. It was a planned attack and the strike was done with clinical precision, according to an officer.

The attack took the naxals by total surprise and they found it hard to escape. Most of them tried to hide behind the bushes and trees. Due to continuous firing, they were unable to get back their weapons which have been left at a little distance.

Hurt RK, Ravi escaped?

Police believe top leaders RK and Gajarla Ravi were holding another meeting of seniors at another place at some distance and soon after the attack broke out, they have decided to disappear from the scene. But in the process, RK was believed to have sustained bullet injuries and he was reportedly whisked by his guards from the scene on their shoulders. But this has not been confirmed as there was nobody to substantiate this story. Gajarla Ravi however escaped without injuries, it is said.

The attack was said to be the biggest in recent memory and particulary after the division of the state. Naxals who have mostly made AOB their base have suffered and according to a version most of their top strategic leadership was wiped out. They include Ganesh, Tech Madhu and even Munnah, son of RK.

Muppalla Lakshmana Rao alias Ganapathi, the supremo was an enigma. Most of the show is being run by RK himself, it is said. Reports of class struggle, the divide between forward and backward communities has taken a toll have been doing rounds. With adivasis slowly distancing themselves from the outlawed group and shrinking financial resources coupled with internal bickerings, the Maoists are finding it difficult to carry on their struggle, according to analysts.
