The Supreme Court of India on Tuesday ordered the Central government of India to take decision on the fate of Delhi’s assembly within 4 weeks. The apex court asked the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi to either dissolve the assembly to take a fresh poll or form a popular government within four weeks.
The Delhi assembly is under suspension since February 14 when Aam Aadmi Party government resigned over Jan Lokpal bill issue.
The court headed by Justice HL Dattu adjourned the hearing on AAP’s petition seeking dissolution of assembly. The court asked the government to conclude the issue in either way, saying, ‘what would it say if a citizen came to the court and said he wanted to be served by an elected representative — who is not doing anything and yet getting paid, and that’s all because of you (government)’. Take decision on Delhi within 4 weeks – SC to Centre.
