The ruling Telugu Desam Party will not field candidate in Allagadda assembly by-election respecting the tradition. The Deputy CM of Andhra Pradesh KE Krishnamurthy announced on Monday that the party will not contest the election as the seat went vacant after the sad demise of Shobhanagi Reddy of YSRCP.
Krishnamurthy said, “Telugu Desam party has taken the decision by respecting the practice of not fielding candidates in case of the demise of the incumbent MLA”.
Shobhinagi Reddy of YSRCP was died on April 24 this year, just two weeks before the elections, in a road mishap. The Election Commission did not remove her name from the list and the people voted in favour of their demised leader in large numbers making her win with a margin of more than 10,000 votes.
YSRCP has now fielded her young daughter Akhila Priya (26) to contest the seat of her mother. Akhila is a post-graduate in business administration.
The election is scheduled for November 8 and counting for November 12.
