In a record of sorts, the colourful floral festival Batukamma has entered Guinnes Book of World Records today with as many as 9292 women have participated in an event organized at LB Stadium here this evening. The event, termed as Maha Batukamma, was organized by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
Maha Batukamma has beaten the record of Kaikottikali dance record attempt of Kerala in which 5211 women dancers have performed the feet in Kozhikode- on February 10, 2015. Kaikottikali dance was performed exclusively by women during the Malayalam festival of Onam, the dance remains popular among Hindu Malayalam women who took 10 months training for this special occasion.
Rain played spoilsport, else, the estimated 10,000 women would have played around a massive 20-ft Batukamma formation. Some women had to run inside the gallery at that time due to rain. But braving the rain, 9292 women have played with grit and determination.
Representatives of Guinnes confirmed record, but a formal stamp of approval will be given only after submission of proofs to the executive body. “We have to send the video footage, the number, the vox pop and the details to it and it will take a month or so to get the formal ratification. But, by all means, this is a record” a representative of the body told V6 News.
