Telangana inks pact with Maharastra

kcrThe Telangana government today  reached a historic pact  with neighbouring Maharashtra  for construction of five barrages on Godavari, Penganga and Pranahita rivers. This MOU took place at Sahyadri GuestHouse in the presence of  Telangana CM KCR and his counterpart Mr.Fadnavis . This is a first of its kind measure to resolve inter-state water dispute between govrnments headed by two different parties through negotiations. This MoU will pave for Telangana-Maharashtra governments to take up irrigation projects across Godavari and  its tributaries.KCR said the long-pending dispute over sharing of Godavari waters will come to an end with the agreement. Mr Rao expressed his happiness on the pact and thanked the Maharashtra Cm Fadnavis on this historical agreement. With this agreement  the past MOU’s and the projects which would be constructed newly in near future  will come under one umbrella.  The five proposed projects include Kaleswaram, a barrage at Rajapet on Penganga, a barrage between Chankha-Kovata, a barrage at Penpahad and another one at Tammidihatti on Pranahita river in Adilabad district. A barrage would also be built at Medigadda in Karimnagar district.  Maharashtra government would take up the projects at Rajapet and Penpahad, while Telangana would build the remaining three.
