Hyderabad: The Telugu catholic faith celebration took place at the Loyola Academy in Alwal on Sunday. Hundreds of faithful people from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were took part in the celebrations. A Holy Mass was celebrated by Archbishop of Hyderabad and officials like Rev. Thumma Bala, MP P. A Sangma, Aga-tha Sangma, Bandaru Dattatreya and Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy were among the guest on the occasion.
According to them in 1715, the first Telugu person accepted catholic faith Fr. Le Gac SJ; he is the leader of France Carnatic Mission who rechristened himself Sanjeevanatha Swamy, baptized Thumma Hanumantha Reddy of the Anantaur district from a village named Madigubba.
Catholics have contributed a lot towards the development of the country, Mr. Sangma said.
And some of the officials and leaders like L. K. Advani, Jyoti Basu and Venkataraman are the products of Christian Educational Institutions. They have been celebrating 300 years of faith by them.
