Presently there are over 70- lakh vehicles plying on Telangana roads with AP series registration. These will mark the end of the AP series in Telangana. With the official appointed day of June 2nd approaching fast, many vehicle buyers are postponing their registrations as they want TG on their number plates.
The Road Transport Department of current Andhra Pradesh government has already sent proposals to the central Road and Highways ministry to allot “TG” series to the new state. Transport authorities have indicated that though the state officially comes into existence on the 2nd, the new registrations will take a day or two more as the separation of all processes has to happen only after that day.
The new government will take a decision on the need to changing the numbers of the existing vehicles. Though the law does not require to change the number till the official 15 years registration period is over, the Telangana government may give the option to change the state series by paying a nominal fee. The details will have to be worked out after the new government is well placed.
