Thakur to be new CJI

Chief Justice H L Dattu will retire as the CJI on December 2, and
Justice T S Thakur will be sworn in as the 43rd CJI in his place by
President Pranab Mukherjee. Justice H L Dattu began the process for
appointing the next Chief Justice of India by recommending to appoint
senior most judge, Justice T S Thakur, as his successor for one year.
Justice Thakur, who started his career as J and K high court advocate,
was appointed as additional judge of that court on February 16, 1994
and then transferred as chief justice of Delhi high court. He
delivered several controversial verdicts. He headed the bench on
Sarada chit fund scam, judge of NRHM scam and led a division bench on
spot fixing and betting scams.
