The Osmania University, once one of the best universities of the country now ails with lack of regular teaching staff. Out of the 1254 sanctioned teaching posts of the University, only 600 teachers were on regular basis. Another 400 were on contract basis and 150 were part timers.
Ten new departments were created in the last ten years due to the rapid changes in the education system worldwide. Now there are 60 departments in the University and some of them are facing crises due to lack of regular teaching staff. As there are no regular Vice Chancellor and professors, many national study projects are held back, bringing research work to a grinding halt.
